Forget about the Dino; this 365 GT4 BB is the first mid-engined model that got to wear Ferrari’s badges and is just sensational.
Enzo Ferrari was kind of forced into making the 365 GT4 BB, as he didn’t want to fall behind his competitors mostly in racing. The legend goes that he never really liked the architecture with the engine mounted behind the cabin but he needed to maintain the connection between his race cars and his products.
The result was the 365 GT4 BB, the successor of the legendary Daytona. Powered by a 4.4-litre flat-12 engine with 380hp, this elegant creation was capable of a 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, topping out at 180mph.
Ferrari’s biggest problem at the time came from Lamborghini as they revealed the same year the Countach, shocking everyone with its spaceship looks. Next to it, the 365 GT4 BB looked almost too tame, too civilized but nevertheless beautifully simple.
Evo magazine had a go at this black low-mileage example set to hit the auction block. Only 387 of these were made, making the 365 GT4 not only rarer than the 512 that succeeded it but also lighter and more powerful.
