Following Chevy’s recipe of the LS V8 powertrain, Ford could supply others with the new GT engine.
An official decision has yet to be made, but the Blue Oval is currently taking into consideration selling the V6 Ecoboost to other automakers and privateer race teams, according to the brand’s Performance chief, Dave Pericak, who recently spoken to Autocar on the subject.
“The engine won at the [2014] 12 Hours of Sebring in the Ford EcoBoost race car, and it’s shown promise in the GT race car. It shows how capable the engine is“, Pericak said, who added that there is a possibility that the unit could end up in vehicles made by other racing teams.
Full specs of the 3.5-liter biturbo powertrain continue to be kept a secret by Ford, but it will surely have an output in excess of 600 HP. Moreover, stats in the Forza Motorsport 6 video game indicate that the V6 will churn out 630 HP and 539 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque.
In the meantime, Ford is reviewing applications received from 6,506 people interested in adding the new GT to their personal collection. Potential owners of the first 500 units will be notified over the next 90 days.
