We all know that the GT-R is a stupendously fast machine, but can it actually pass a bullet? No, to Superman’s delight, it cannot, despite Nissan Australia’s latest commercial.

Filmed on the high velocity testing ground in Ceduna, South Australia, this latest ad actually depicts a GT-R supposedly overtaking a bullet.

How about we do a quick analysis of what we’re seeing in the video, which features the outgoing 2016MY GT-R that develops 20 horsepower less than the recently-unveiled 565 HP 2017MY?

Bypassing the fact that the high-speed run was conducted on what appears to be a dry lake bed, which means the vehicle probably struggled to find traction limiting its top speed, an average bullet travels at 2,500 feet per second (around 1,700 mph or 2,743 km/h), which grossly (and that’s an understatement) exceeds the GT-R’s acceleration and top speed capabilities.

On a serious note, the ad clearly doesn’t want to take itself…seriously, sending a message about the GT-R’s outstanding performance, comparing it to that of a bullet. It might look ridiculous, but the end result might be entertaining enough to watch.
