It’s no secret that GM and PSA have collaborated on the development of the successors to the Opel Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso, but there’s a question mark on whether Peugeot will get a similar model as well.

These latest spy shots from Germany may or may not provide an answer, but it’s worth noting that, like the Opel Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso prototypes we’ve spotted over the past few months, this tester only differs up front from the other cars, leading our spies to believe it could be a Peugeot mule.

GM and PSA have admitted that the Meriva and C3 Picasso will move away from their minivan roots taking on a more SUV-like design approach, which would play well with the idea of Peugeot creating a successor to their current 2008 small crossover that was updated at the Geneva Motor Show this year.

The prototypes are still in their early development phase and as such, do not feature final production body panels, while if Peugeot does indeed plan to replace the 2008 with this car, it should get a higher road clearance and a more rugged appearance.

It’s very likely that GM and PSA will share certain engines among themselves, while possibly offering one or more of their own powertrains on the cars.
