Following the retirement of the Land Rover Defender, Kahn Design are looking to expand their operations to the United States, with the Jeep Wrangler as their partner.

In charge of the British vehicle customizer and coachbuilder’s new project will be their Chelsea Truck Company subsidiary. Compared to approximately 500 Wranglers sold in the UK each year, Jeep sells around 160,000 examples in the United States, so it makes sense for the tuner to expand its reach across the pond.

We’ve just launched a wide-body styling package for the Jeep Wrangler, and we’re looking for that car to take over where the Defender finished“, a Kahn spokesperson told Autocar.

Kahn Design’s shifting of direction could take the company to different grounds, as an all-electric vehicle was hinted by the spokesman, who refused to disclose further details on it: “We’ve got other programmes in the stages of research and development at the moment. Provided that we get through those evaluation stages, I’d like to think that we’ll have something on the market within 12 months.

Founded in 1998, Afzal Kahn’s company is responsible for the coachbuilt Aston Martin-based Vengeance and numerous projects involving the Land Rover Defender, including the six-wheeled Flying Huntsman. Over the years, the tuner rolled out unique interpretations of several Range Rover models, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and even an SLR McLaren Roadster.
