In between the introduction of the China-only Peugeot 308 Sedan and Citroen C6 flagship, PSA has some interesting plans when it comes to the 508.

Company boss, Maxime Picat, told Autocar magazine that the automaker will not pull the plug on the large family saloon and estate models, as these continue to sell well in markets such as France, Spain and Belgium, but they struggle in the UK, against more upscale rivals.

The question is whether we repeat the same 4.8-metre saloon design or not“, Picat said. “We won’t take a big risk, because we don’t have a huge car park of customers we can risk losing, but we can move the lines of where the class is and we can be a little bold. We have a solution which, we think, is a good surprise – but I will not tell you more.

A replacement for the 508 is believed to be strengthened by PSA’s strategy to expand their DS lineup and to have Citroen sell cars that major on comfort and style.

In its current form, the Peugeot 508 debuted in 2011, with a front-engine and front-wheel drive layout, riding on the PF3 platform, which also underpins the Citroen C5. The large family car uses a wide array of petrol and diesel engines and it’s assembled in France, China and Malaysia.
