If somehow Porsche’s flat-four 718 models weren’t special enough, the car maker’s Exclusive program is taking care of that.
Porsche recently revamped both its Boxster and Cayman models, adding the 718 nameplate to homage, and at the same time emphasize, its flat-four cylinder engines. The same layout was used in the mid-engine Porsche 718 sports cars, which won numerous races back in the late 1950s and the early 1960s.
The center piece of these vehicles is undoubtedly the newly developed turbocharged flat four-cylinder engine, which generates 299 PS (295 HP) from two liters of displacement in the regular Boxter/Cayman, while the S-enhanced variants chug out 349 PS (345 HP) from a 2.5-litre mill, but this time we’ll be focusing more on their visual add-ons. That’s because Porsche Exclusive – the car maker’s division specialized in creating select variants of Stuttgart’s best – added some exterior and interior trinkets that put the Devil in the details.
Although unnoticeable until pointed out, the yellow 718 Boxter received a SportDesign package, a sports exhaust system with black tailpipes, painted model designation badges at the rear and on the sides, and 20-inch Carrera Sport wheels – all adorned in high-gloss black (even the headlight cleaning system covers).
The interior carries the same black and yellow theme, adding a splash of color with the Racing Yellow hue around the dials and Sport Chrono stopwatch, and even more sportiness with the GT sports steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara, and carbon-fiber interior package.
The 718 Cayman was embellished with similar enhancements, differentiating from its al fresco sibling with the brushed aluminum and stainless steel interior trim, white interior accents and silver colored exterior elements.
