We’ve spied Jaguar testing an updated version of their F-Type sports car on the Nürburgring where the British company maintains a test facility.
Presented in roadster trim first in 2013 and then as a coupe the following year, the F-Type has been a success for Jaguar, with Ian Cullum’s head-turning design being one of its greatest assets. That said, Jaguar doesn’t want to mess with a successful recipe applying only modest revisions to the sports car.
From what we can tell, there’s a redesigned front bumper with sleeker air inlets, a re-sculpted grille and new headlamps with LED units, possibly featuring adaptive tech, while at the back, the only difference on this ‘S’ model seems to be some slight changes to the bumper and diffuser. It is possible that Jaguar might tweak the tail lamp fixtures by the time the updated F-Type goes on sale.
We’re lacking pictures of the interior at this point, but expect some improvements inside too, including the XF and F-Pace crossover’s newer infotainment system with pinch and zoom functionality and a larger screen, and fresh colors.
Some incremental improvements may be made to one or more of the F-Type’s powertrains that currently include a base 340PS (335hp) supercharged 3.0-liter V6, a 380PS (375hp) version of the same mill for the ‘S’ model, and a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 delivering 550PS (543hp) in the ‘R’ edition and 575PS (572hp) in the latest SVR model.
Whatever updates Jaguar makes to the coupe will be applied to the roadster model as well, with both F-Types to go on sale sometime next year.
