A new report indicates that a performance version of the Seat Ateca is months away from being unveiled.
Since not everyone at Seat is convinced that customers are looking for juiced up versions of compact SUVs, the Spaniards will purportedly test the waters with a concept model at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October, before reaching a final decision.
Setting it apart from the already available model will be the beefier bumpers and side sills, a revised honeycomb grille, LED lighting and two exhaust pipes, joined by the Cupra colors and chunkier multi-spoke alloy wheels, as AutoExpress reports.
Mechanical changes over the standard Ateca are likely to include a lowered ride height and its own Cupra mode, stiffening the adaptive dampers, enhancing the throttle, steering and 4WD electronics response and gaining a throatier sound, at the touch of a button.
The powertrain of choice is believed to be the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder used on the Leon Cupra, with power hiked from the current 286 HP to 300 HP, allowing it to sprint from naught to sixty (96 km/h) in around six seconds.
Numerous electronic driving aids, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminum pedals, leather and red trim will complete the package and, if it will be green lighted, then its price should tick the box at approximately £35,000 ($50,750), in the United Kingdom.
