The first car ever produced by Tesla Motors, the Roadster, has been left aside in favor of the Model S, Model X or the upcoming Model 3 compact saloon.

However, things are about to change as a successor for the open-top vehicle is being planned, with an updated design, larger proportions and improved performance, according to Electrek, quoting IDG.

We would have loved to build more, but if no one other than you would be listening right now, then I’d probably tell you that we will manufacture it again. It will look a little different, a little faster and a little bigger“, said Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, Tesla’s Nordic Countries Manager.

While the initial Tesla Roadster was based on the Lotus Elise, its successor is expected to be built form the ground up as a zero-emission vehicle, and it could be underpinned by the company’s third-gen platform, like the Model 3.

However, since the latter is currently the one Tesla is focusing almost all its resources, don’t expect to hear much about the Roadster for a while, not until the Model 3 will hit the market.
