Going by the sheer number of prototypes snapped by our readers, spy shooters and YouTubers over the past year, Mercedes-Benz’s W213 E-Class in all of its body-styles, must be the most commonly seen tester on public roads these days.
After the world premiere of the core sedan range at the Detroit Auto Show in January, the light AMG E43 performance sedan in New York, and most recently, the very Maybach-ish LWB sedan in (and for) China, Mercedes’ remaining E-Class menu includes an Estate/Wagon, a Coupe, a Convertible and the pure AMG E63 models for all bodies.
Here, Carscoops reader Matthias F., spied the roomy 2017 E-Class Wagon on a German highway with only its rear end covered. Understandably, that’s the only area of interest, being that the rest of the car will be identical to the already available in Europe, saloon.
For this generation of their biggest and longest-running estate nameplate in Mercedes range, Benz has opted to sacrifice a little bit practicality and height to make the E-Class Wagon look sleeker and less boxy, following BMW’s and Audi’s examples. Even if it loses some cargo room, the new model will still have one of the largest in its segment and not only.
All engines found in the new E-Class sedan will be transferred into the Wagon, including a number of efficient (on paper) four-cylinder and V6 turbocharged diesel and gasoline units, and for performance hungry drivers, a twin-turbo V8 with 563hp (571PS) in base trim and 604hp (612PS) in “S” guise for the E63 AMG models.
We should see the new E-Class Wagon for the first time later this summer.
Thanks to Matthias F. for the scoop!
