Wimmer RS has an eye for tuning, and this particular modified Volkswagen Touareg doesn’t state otherwise.
Although not as adored by aftermarket specialists as the first-gen model, the 7P5 Touareg still lends itself beautifully to modding. That’s why the German company took advantage of the SUVs clean lines and powerful engines, transforming the model into what looks like a Golf on steroids – while still keeping the overall aspect simple.
The enhancements were performed on a stock 204 HP (201 HP) and 332 ft-lb (450 Nm) of torque 3.0-liter TDI variant, as Wimmer began by implementing a minor software optimization, a Variant 3 KW adjustable coilover suspension system, and a new set of rims – in order to improve the Touareg’s driving dynamics. The end result is a 2.2-ton vehicle, which sends 240 PS (237 HP) and 525 ft-lb (712 Nm) of torque to four BBS CH-R 21-inch rims wrapped in 295/35-21 tires.
Completing the modifications list is an in-house designed exhaust system and the tuner’s typical lateral body vinyls, but Wimmer says there are more to follow, as the company plans to upgrade the 3.0-litre TDI mill to 310 PS (305 HP) and 600 ft-lb (813 Nm) of torque – almost throwing it into the 4.2-litre V8 diesel’s territory. If in standard guise the 3.0-litre Touareg goes from 0 to 100 Km/h (62mph) in 8.5 seconds, all the way to its 206 km/h (128 mph) top speed, just imagine what it will do with an additional 106 PS (104 HP) and 268 ft-lb (363 Nm) of torque.
But until then, we’re left with a straightforward, no-nonsense take on Volkswagen’s mid-size luxury SUV, better suited for the asphalt than anywhere else.
