It’s one of the least favorite Jeep models and yet, somehow it looks like one of the coolest daily drivers a man can get.
Meet Sam Fankuchen and his lightly modified 1970 Jeepster Commando in the latest Petrolicious film. Sam fiddled with the car in just the right places in order to make it better in everyday driving.
Things like a rebuilt ‘Dauntless’ V6 engine and a set of Recaro seats upholstered in robust, marine leather are just some of the smart changes its owner did.
“The gauges are not stock, but apart from that, nothing was added. In fact, things were subtracted,” he says. “I stripped out the all the interior and put truck bed liner in front to rear so I could just hose it out and not worry.”
For some people modern cars with all their bells and whistles are boring appliances and not capable of grasping your emotions like a classic vehicle can do.
“It was harder, more expensive, less safe to drive this thing every day, but I did it because I was committed to the project, I did it so that one day I’d be able to introduce my kids to cars like this,” Sam says. “When you’re looking at the future of our economy here, it’s really important to encourage an interest at a young age…”
