The vast majority of concept cars are just for showing-off, as they were never meant to be driven, but not this one.
This 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue OSV Concept Car Experimental might not have a flamboyant body or futuristic characteristic, but that’s exactly what makes it functional and drivable. The peculiar automobile belonged to the GM Heritage Museum collection (before the organization went bust) and now it’s up for grabs on eBay for just $21,500.
For roughly half the price of an entry-level 300 HP, 3.7-litre V6, front-wheel-drive Lincoln Continental, you could own a 3.5-litre supercharged twin-cam V6 Oldsmobile, with only 490 miles (788 km) on the clock. The powerplant – more specifically the supercharger – is the part that transforms this vehicle from an ordinary LX5 Shortstar Intrigue into a full-fat “experimental” concept-car, producing 315 HP at 6000 rpm and 295 ft-lb (400 Nm) of torque at 4400 rpm – a generous amount at the beginning of the 21st century.
Or at least that’s what the ad says, as opposed to the vehicle’s show placard, which shows less optimistic values, closer to the standard power figure of the stock Intrigue – 260 HP at 5,600 rpm and 260 ft-lb (352 Nm) of torque at 4,400 rpm.
Either way, the engine will make itself heard with the help of a Borla exhaust system, while the 13-inch cross-drilled Brembo brakes are there to stop the vehicle adequately. Surely there won’t be such an opportunity anytime soon, so what are you still doing here?
