The Hyundai Tucson has become the only vehicle in the small SUV category to score good ratings for both driver and passenger in the small-overlap crash test session, conducted by the IIHS.
Redesigned for the 2016 MY, the Tucson recorded a maximum intrusion of the lower interior of 15 cm (5.9 in) in the parking brake pedal, 4-5 cm (1.57-1.96 in) at the upper hinge pillar and instrument panel and 7 cm (2.75 in) at other locations, while the dummies indicated a low risk of significant injuries.
“Our 2016 Tucson’s good rating for both driver and passenger in the demanding IIHS small overlap crash test reflects our commitment to passenger safety at every level. We’re certainly proud of our Tucson’s industry-leading performance in the small SUV category“, said the Hyundai Motor America VP of Corporate and Product Planning, Mike O’Brien.
The vehicle scored Good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats too, while the Front Crash Prevention system was awarded with six points. The front collision warning meets the NHTSA criteria, while the automatic braking system helped it avoid collision in both the 12 mph (19 km/h) and 25 mph (40 km/h) tests.
Some of the standard and optional safety technologies equipping the 2016 Hyundai Tucson, depending on the selected grade, include Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, rear parking sensors and rearview camera.
