Seat was caught for the first time testing the successor of the Ibiza, giving us a first glimpse of the 2017 Spanish supermini.
The company is expected to transfer styling cues from the Leon, leading to a more mature appearance than that of the current model. The heavy cladding of the five-door prototype doesn’t reveal much apart from the lights, but the general shape of the car gives a lot of hints as to its actual looks.
Just like the next VW Polo and Skoda Fabia, the fifth generation of the Seat Ibiza is going to be based on the smallest version of the MQB platform, providing more cabin space. Expect better quality materials, an area where the current model was criticized- and the latest connectivity features.
The new Ibiza is in line to gain a crossover variant to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and the Renault Captur, that will be the Spanish variant of VW’s upcoming Polo-based SUV.
Reports suggest that Seat could reveal its new supermini in full this fall at the Paris Motor Show, with sales starting next year.
