There are things of which you can have too much in life, but power and speed aren’t among them. At least not when it comes to La Sarthe or the tuners at Brabus.
The venerable Mercedes tuner chose the site of this weekend’s famous 24-hour race to unveil its latest product. Dubbed the Brabus 850 6.0 Cabrio, it’s based closely on the Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet, but taken even further. Instead of 577 horsepower from 5.5 liters of twin-turbo V8 muscle, the Brabus version produces a massive 838 hp from 6.0 liters.
That’s enough to propel the all-wheel-drive luxury convertible to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds (down from 4.1), topping out at 217 mph. That makes this the world’s fastest, most powerful four-seat convertible. Any faster, Brabus says, and the tires might not hold up.
The list of upgrades also includes upgrades to the aero, rolling stock, interior, and more. But those individual options are up to the customer, and what’s really caught out attention is how much power the Brabus S-Cabrio produces, and to what effect. And on both counts, it has more than enough to put rivals like the Bentley Continental GTC Speed and the V12-powered Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet to shame.
