Aston Martin’s latest track-oriented special edition of the Vantage combines race-car looks with one of best V8 soundtracks in the world but is this enough to justify its impressive price tag?
This is not a car for power-hungry clientele as the revised 4.7-litre V8 engine produces only 10hp more than the regular V8 S model, for a total of 440hp. This is still though a 190mph (306km/h) machine, with 0-62mph (100km/h) coming in 4.4 seconds.
Instead, Aston Martin wanted to offer the most unfiltered driving experience from the V8 Vantage platform, taking inspiration from the GTE race car. The bodywork now features a very aggressive aero agenda with the star of the show being that huge rear wing.
The car is also up to 100kg / 220 lbs lighter than the V8 S thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and other lightweight solutions like a plastic rear window and an optional titanium exhaust system. Only 150 of these very special cars will ever be made, with Aston Martin saying that the entire production run is already sold out.
Steve Sutcliffe from Auto Express delivers his verdict on the GT8, giving us a nice idea of how an engine should sound too.
