Caterham’s most powerful production Seven ever built, the 620R, will be put to the test at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The open-top two-seater will feature in the Race Car of the Road category on the hillclimb every day and responsible for racing it will be former British GT champion, Jon Barnes, who is no stranger to the brand’s cars, as he started his racing career at the Caterham Graduates Racing Club.

This year, in our own endless pursuit of power, we’ve developed new chassis technology, which makes even more of the fact that our cars weigh about the same as a postage stamp“, commented the manufacturer’s Chief Commercial Officer, David Ridley.

Aside from the 311-horsepower 620R, which is capable of reaching 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in less than 3 seconds, Caterham will also be exhibiting a Seven 420R, on the Niche Vehicle Network stand. It features an ultra-weight chassis co-developed with bicycle frame make Reynolds and computer aided engineering consultancy Simpact.

This is actually the first car to benefit from a chassis using butted tubing technology, sourced from bike-making. The 420R that will see the light of day between June 23 and 26 will be a fully road-registered vehicle and it will be joined by a racing bicycle built with Reynolds tubing.
