Nowadays, versatile and adventurous looking -but not necessarily off-road capable- vehicles seem to attract more and more buyers, and it looks like Chevrolet is planning to bring one to the U.S.

Autoguide reports that a document published by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) gave away the American car maker’s plans, as Chevrolet certified the new “2017 Spark Activ” with the clean air agency in the government of California.

The paper suggests that GM’s division plans to bring the car to America, and if you’re interested in how the car will look like, the Beat Activ concept will most likely offer you a clue – more so as the production variant of the show car will be commercialized in India under the same moniker.

Chevrolet describes the Beat Activ as a soft-roader, as the car will feature a plastic cladding body kit which will set it apart from the standard range. The American variant will most likely share its attributes with its Indian cousin, as the document indicates that the Spark Activ will be powered by the same 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 98 horsepower and 94 lb-ft (127 Nm) of torque, as the regular Spark.

Given that GM trademarked the name and was certified at CARB, it’s not inconceivable to expect the funky automobile stateside.
