Citroen’s product offensive, included in the “Push to Pass” plan, continues with the announcement of a new crossover, which will hit the assembly lines by 2018.
Part of the brand’s dynamic strategy that will see the introduction of four new models in less than 18 months, the vehicle, referred to as the “C84 project”, will be based on the versatile EMP2 platform, which currently underpins numerous models from PSA, from the SpaceTourer and Jumpy to the China-only C6 and Peugeot 3008.
It will be manufactured in Rennes, France, following a €100 million (~$113 million) investment, alongside the future Peugeot 5008 and Citroen E-Mehari, where output will increase from the current 60,000 units annually to 100,000 units. PSA states that the plant in Rennes was chosen after a study that spanned over several months, which eventually reflected “the performance measures taken by the plant and the commitments made to upgrade operations“. Work on the factory will begin in early 2017 and will complete in 2018.
“The decision to manufacture this new vehicle in Rennes shows that, when stakeholders are committed to working together to secure the future of a manufacturing plant, they can create the performance conditions necessary in a continuous efficiency improvement process“, said Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Group, Carlos Tavares.
Despite the French being eager to announce their new crossover, details remain under wraps, but with less than 18 months left until it shows its face, test mules and prototypes should hit the road soon, shedding some light on the topic.
