German driver Dirk Muller put his #68 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT on pole position in the LM GTE Pro class with a fastest time of 3m 51.185s.

The Ford GT took provisional pole during Wednesday night’s first qualifying session, before wet weather prevented challengers from improving on early lap times.

“Every member of this team has worked tirelessly to get the Ford GT to this stage in its development,” said executive VP Raj Nair. “We know the greatest task is still ahead of us and speed isn’t the only thing you need at Le Mans. As one team with one goal, we will race with commitment and passion and we will race for every member of the extended Ford family across the globe.”

The #69 Ford GT will line up alongside the pole position holder, while the #67 and #66 cars will start Saturday’s race in P4 and P5 respectively.

In order to mark the automaker’s return to Le Mans, Ford also put together a special video for its employees around the world, depicting the role each employee plays in helping the company achieve its goals on a global level.

The 84th Le Mans 24hr race is set to get underway Saturday at 15:00hrs CET.
