Hot hatch fans in search of new wheels might want to wait before signing the contract, as Ford is reportedly planning an even hotter version of the Focus RS.
The car, which is currently referred to as the Focus RS500, has the potential of becoming “the fastest-accelerating hatchback in history“, according to MotorMag, quoting company insiders, claiming that it will go through a diet to improve the current power-to-weight ratio by using CFRP plastic body work, less sound insulation and a stripped out interior.
Mods on top of the current hot hatch will apparently continue with an upgraded drivetrain and the introduction of an electronically limited-slip differential, larger radiators and a new front bumper with larger intakes to improve cooling.
If it materializes, the RS500 will still use the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine. which is operating close to its highest output already, meaning 350 PS (345 HP) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque, or 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) with an overboost function. However, it will get a power hike from the current car’s 350 PS and a Powershift dual-clutch transmission, which should drop the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time needed by the stock Focus RS from 4.7 seconds close to 4.0 seconds or even lower.
Ford has not commissioned such a project yet, but its bosses are said to keep an eye on sales of the regular hot hatch to determine whether there is room for it on the market.
