The Korean entry in the premium segment presented a go-faster version of the G80 dubbed Sport, which is powered by a new twin-turbo V6 engine.
Genesis wants to expand the range of the G80, a revamped version of the model previously known as the Hyundai Genesis, by announcing the addition of the more dynamic Sport model as well as a diesel-powered variant in 2017.
Under the bonnet of the new Genesis G80 Sport lies the twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 unit that debuted in the G90 model producing 365hp and 376lb ft (509Nm) of torque. Technical details remain unknown at the moment, as we are still waiting for the official press release, but it is understood that the engine is paired to the same eight-speed automatic gearbox found in the G90.
The company claims that the G90 -known as the EQ900 in the Korean market- with the new turbo V6 engine is capable of a 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds. That could mean that the lighter G80 Sport will be a tad quicker for the same procedure. Genesis also added new bumpers and wheels to the new G80 Sport for a more dynamic look as well as a black front grille and a rear diffuser between the quad exhaust tips.
