Volkswagen’s technical solutions to repair the 2-liter TDI engines equipped with cheating emission software have been approved by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
The fix comprises of a software update and revolves around more than 800,000 units of the Passat, CC and Eos, powered by the EA 189-codenamed diesel. If you happen to own one of these affected cars, then expect a letter from Volkswagen informing you that a recall is currently underway, asking you to make an appointment with an authorized dealer.
“The launch of the retrofit campaign for the Passat, CC and Eos models involves a large number of cars that will now be recalled to the workshops. I am pleased that the retrofitting of over 800,000 of our customers’ cars can now begin. Our dealerships and service partners are well prepared for the campaign“, said Volkswagen Passenger Cars official, Jurgen Stackmann.
Following the retrofit, which will be made free of charge, all cars will meet legal requirements and the software solution won’t affect fuel consumption, performance or noise emissions, as the automaker states.
In other related news, Volkswagen will delay the launch of the recall campaign for cars equipped with the smaller displacement 1.2-liter TDI EA 189 engines, which was initially planned to kick off in the second quarter of this year.
