Goodwood is not only home to the famed hillclimb, numerous manufacturer displays, dozens of iconic road cars and racing cars, but also includes the forest rally stage designed by 1983 World Rally Championship victor Hannu Mikkola.
Introduced in its current form in 2006, the forest rally stage is situated at the top of the hill and for those looking to escape the crowds of the hillclimb, is the ideal place to relax while watching some of the sport’s best known cars pushed to their limits.
Unlike the hillclimb, very few manufacturers actually bring their cars to the rally stage, with most entrants being private ones. This results in a huge selection of cars from iconic Group B rally cars like the Audi Quattro and Ford RS200 to more modern toys like the Impreza WRX STI.
The rally stage itself is quite technical and combines flowing corners with tight switchbacks, a jump and varying gradients. There are viewing areas aplenty and rather than spectators being seperated from the cars with huge hay bales, enthusiasts can almost get within arms reach of the cars.
If you’re planning on going to Goodwood in 2017, make sure to visit the rally stage!
