After their i30  Turbo race car met all expectations at the Nurburgring 24 hours Race, Hyundai said that all the gathered data will be used in the development of a new performance-oriented engine.

The fact that the newly designed turbocharged engine managed to cope with the strains of a 24h race was an important finding, even more so considering how future units might be quite similar to the one in the i30 2.0 Turbo.

“We are on a very good way regarding the design of our first N vehicle. In the process of designing high-performance engines, the highest possible horsepower output is not the top priority. Instead, the engineers focus on maximum driving pleasure and driving fun without compromising the every-day-usability,” stated Hyundai’s Albert Biermann, in charge of performance development.

For its extended run on the Nordschleife, many components of the i30 2.0 Turbo had to be changed, as improvements were made to the engine, the adapted suspension and shock absorbers, the wheels, steering, and of course several safety components were added.

Aside from all the important findings that will make it into the N vehicle, the Nurburgring 24h Race also proved to be a huge success for the i30 development car, which finished P90 in the overall rankings.
