Funny how something as strange as watching a car strolling down the motorway all by itself could easily become the new norm in the not so distant future.
While YouTube pranks are a dime a dozen these days, there’s just something about putting a look of astonishment across other motorists’ faces as your Autopilot-driven Tesla cruises past with (apparently) not a soul on board.
In this case, the driver is well-hidden behind a mesh seat cover that pretty much makes it seem like there’s literally nobody there – unless you know what a Tesla Model S seat actually looks like.
Other drivers’ reactions are priceless as pretty much all of them can hardly believe their eyes. What we can’t figure out though was how come nobody spotted/reacted to the cameras since one of them was clearly positioned on the passenger-side window in clear view of anyone leaning towards the car; whereas the other was placed above the steering wheel.
Also, regardless of how wholesome these types of pranks tend to be, they do reflect what we’re in for in the near future. A report came out recently stating that Uber is looking to eliminate drivers altogether and that it all starts with an order of 100,000 autonomous vehicles.
