With a hypothetical £35,000 ($46,000) to spend on a sports coupe, Carwow’s Mat Watson set out to help buyers decide if Ford’s V8-powered Mustang can offset the likes of the BMW M235i and Audi TT TFSI.
To begin with, while the Mustang offers an alluring (and sonorous) engine under its hood, it faces an uphill battle, as it’s got the least amount of driver-spoiling on-board tech and doesn’t come close to what Audi and BMW bring to the table in terms of cabin quality – but none of that should come as a surprise.
What might surprise you to learn is that the Mustang, despite being the biggest car here, didn’t provide the most space for the rear passengers. Watson also complains about the cupholders getting in the way of you shifting gears (not as rare an occurrence as you might think) and even goes as far as to call the door bins “useless”.
Also, midway through the review, the three cars do line up for a short drag race, but it’s the individual performance analysis (towards the end) that will most likely help convince you which of these cars would be the most fun to drive.
In the end, it’s value, driving dynamics and practicality that seem to sway the verdict, which means you may yet be surprised by the overall winner.
