Gone in 60 seconds? Not quite, because this thief enjoyed his new set of wheels, a rare Porsche 918 Spyder, for just a few hours before the long arm of the law tracked him down.
Francisco Gonzalez-Velasquez is one of the lucky few who got the chance to drive Porsche’s most extreme road-legal machine, the 918 Spyder, but he paid the price, as he is now in custody after stealing it.
It all started when the 22-year old man saw the 918 Spyder on the showroom floor, at Porsche of Salt Lake dealership, and decided to break in and drive off the property. According to the local County Sheriff’s Officie, quoted by KUTV, this happened around 4:30 pm, and six hours later, he was apprehended, not far from the area, and charged with theft, burglary and theft by receiving stolen property.
The hypercar was undamaged in the short joyride and will remain at the dealership until someone with deep pockets walks in and pays the 7-figure price tag…or until it grabs the attention of yet another thief. One way or another, you just cannot keep an 887 HP & 940 pound-feet (1,280 Nm) of torque hybrid hypercar away from the road for a long time, can you?
