With the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed in its sight for making its world premiere, the McLaren 570S Sprint has just been unveiled by the British manufacturer.
Based on the 570S Coupe, the track-only Sprint is the most hardcore model yet in the Sports Series lineup. It features the familiar 3.8-liter mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 engine, mated to a 7-speed SSG transmission.
Performance numbers have yet to be released, but the automaker states that power and torque levels have been optimized “to ensure the ultimate levels of driver engagement and the best levels of noise”. Given McLaren’s naming strategy that uses the car’s output with a letter suffix (e.g. 650S), we presume the Sprint retains the same output as the road-legal 570S, that is 570 PS (562 HP) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.
The track-oriented 570S features center-locking lightweight cast magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli racing slicks, while the suspension retains the double wishbone set up of the road car but gets a motorsport air jacking system as an option.
Built around the carbon fiber MonoCell II chassis, shared with all Sports Series models, it features enhanced cooling through a front center GT3-inspired high-temp radiator and it has a more aggressive front splitter. Separating the airflow above, below and through the bodywork is an “air piercing” front bumper, while the carbon fiber front dive planes and large fixed rear wing assure improved downforce. The standard color is McLaren Orange, but it can be optioned with any shade available on the rest of the Sports Series models, completed by a range of MSO-designed liveries.
The cabin has been stripped out and features an FIA-approved rollcage, a sport seat with a six-point racing harness, a fire extinguisher system and it can be optionally equipped with a passenger seat.
McLaren’s 570S Sprint is not homologated for any race series, but the GT4 compliance pack sits at its disposal, as a further upgrade, and counts all items required to meet the FIA standards for the GT4 competition.
Prices will start from £148,000 ($217,330) in the United Kingdom and customer deliveries will commence in 2017.
