Progress is usually for the best, especially in the automotive industry where cars are only getting faster, safer, more efficient, and more convenient. But there are some things we miss even if their utility has long been outmoded. Like pop-up headlights, for example.
A carryover memento from a bygone era, pop-up headlights long preceded the LED, halogen and laser-beam headlights we have today that can automatically adjust their brightness to the conditions, magically drop off high-beam for oncoming traffic, and virtually see around corners.
Pop-ups were a mechanical solution so low-tech as to have no place on today’s automobiles. But sometimes we miss them all the same. And as it turns out, we’re not alone.
One enthusiast loved pop-up headlights so much that he spent years filming them in action, and put them together into this one thirteen-minute supercut clip. It’s packed with Ferraris, Lambos and Porsches of course, but also classic American muscle, and some genuine rarities and oddities.
But don’t take our word for it. Put on your shutter shades and check out the action in the video clip to see for yourself.
