If you were at this year’s Festival of Speed and had to free up some space on your camera, you’d have a very hard time choosing which of the images and videos you should delete.
That’s because everyone had brought his whole range of supercars. Ferrari, for instance, had the 488 GTB, 488 Spider, California T HS (yep, that can go) and, of course, the 458MM Speciale one-off.
The same applies to Lamborghini, who had no less than three Huracáns, Aston Martin that showed up with the Vulcan, Vantage GT8 and DB11, Porsche with the 911 R and 918 Spyder (maybe this one, too?), Honda the new NSX, Bugatti the Chiron… the list is very, very long and distinguished.
Making their world debut at the 2016 FoS were the Mercedes-AMG GT R and McLaren 570S Sprint – and, strangely enough, the former was much louder even though they’re both turbocharged but only the Merc is the one that’s street legal.
Smaller manufacturers were also there in force, so visitors got to see rarities like the KTM X-Bow GT4 and the Arrinera Hussarya GT. Fine pieces of metal, carbon and what-have-you, all of them; still, it was some older kit that made the best ear-piercing sound and both of them were Ferraris.
One might argue that the FXX Evo is a racer, but so is the FXX K that sounded muted in comparison. And, sadly, hearing the manic F12tdf was a stark reminder that the 488s should have had a better soundtrack.
