Porsche have started producing the 718 Cayman at their plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany.

The facility will be putting together all of the brand’s two-door sports cars from August, when production will increase from more than 220 units per day to around 240 examples.

The production launch of the Cayman successor models was executed to our full satisfaction. After the successful launches of the new 911 at the end of last year and of the new 718 Boxster in spring 2016, the team in Zuffenhausen also handled this production launch impeccably. This is further proof that our employees work with perfection and passion on a daily basis to enable a very special Porsche experience for our customers“, said Executive board Member for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, Albrecht Reimold.

Along with its fresh looks, the 718 Cayman sets itself apart from the previous iteration by adopting new flat-four turbocharged engines instead of the old naturally aspirated six-cylinders. The base model uses a 2.0-liter with 300 HP, while the sportier S has a 2.5-liter rated at 350 HP. This means 25 HP more over their predecessors and NEDC fuel consumption figures ranging from 8.1 to 6.9 lt/100 km (29.04-34.09 mpg US).

Porsche has already started taking orders for the 718 Cayman, but deliveries will kick off in September in Europe, with the US to follow two months later.
