Renault’s first one-tonne pickup truck that was previewed by the Alaskan Concept last September will be revealed in production form this Thursday, June 30, during a special event in Medellin, Columbia.
The French brand offered no other details on the production truck that will keep the concept’s name when it goes on sale in Europe and South America in the first half of 2017, with other markets to follow.

The new Renault Alaskan shares its architecture with partner Nissan’s current NP300 Navara and Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming first pickup truck, rumored to be named the GLT, though it’s believed that all three companies engineered and designed their own final versions.

The Alaskan should look like a softened down and more realistic version of last year’s concept retaining the same dimensions and much of the styling, with Renault stating that it will offer a range of twin-turbocharged engines including the 163hp 2.3-liter diesel found in the Master Van.

The company stated that the Alaskan will be a “high-end pick-up for business and leisure use, as well as for everyday motoring”, meaning we can expect it to compete across the commercial and lifestyle-orientated segments of the pickup truck market offering both base and luxed-up editions.

For the European market, production of the Alaskan will take place in Nissan’s plant in Barcelona, Spain, alongside the Nissan and Mercedes models, while all three trucks will also be manufactured in Mexico and Argentina.
