Generally speaking, crashing your bike and saying were lucky, doesn’t make a lot of sense, until you watch this clip.

Jamie Cowton came within inches of being seriously hurt, or worse, by fellow racer Horst Saiger during this year’s Isle of Man TT, and we’re confident the former considered himself a very lucky man as soon as he realized how much of a close call that was.

Because this is a road course and racers are attacking corners at very high speed, there isn’t much in terms of what anybody can do whenever a big crash does occur. In fact, there have been 246 fatalities (141 competitors) since 1907 through last year, which should give you a general idea of what you’re dealing with here in terms of risk.

As you can see from the footage below, Cowton’s crash sent him spiraling towards the other side of the road and pretty much on a collision course with Saiger’s bike. Saiger wasn’t in a position to do much about it, apart from slow down – which he did as soon as he caught wind of what had just happened ahead.

This has to be without a doubt one of the closest calls ever in the world of motorcycle racing and thankfully that’s all it was. We can’t imagine how getting hit by a speeding motorcycle could ever end well – for neither party.
