That’s rich, especially for a non-exotic that costs just a tenth of the price brand new, so what’s the story?

The Peel P50 has achieved worldwide recognition thanks to Jeremy Clarkson, when he drove it through the BBC’s offices during an older episode of Top Gear, in 2007. Since then a lot has happened, including the revival of Peel Engineering in 2010, which began manufacturing limited edition fully road legal Peel Cars.

This particular example, offered for sale on eBay, is a 2014/2015 model with an absolutely incredible price tag. The ad states that nowadays P50s fetch between $150,000 and $300,000 at auctions, but those are the original models manufactured from 1962 to 1965 on the Isle of Man.

In fact, you can buy a brand new one, today, petrol-powered or electric, for £12,999 ($18,995) or £12,399 ($18,118) respectively. Although the new variants (which respect the original’s dimensions) are being produced in limited numbers, Peel’s official website states that there are a handful left for purchase. So, this might save you a couple of bucks.

The official manufacturer even states that you can get your very own P50 or Trident for just a small fraction of the price an original gets at auctions.

Heaving held the Guinness World Records’ for the as the smallest production car ever made for the past 50 years, the Peel P50 is lovingly hand built in Great Britain, with each one individually constructed to their owner’s personal requirements just as they did it back in the 1960s. The vehicles come with a super quick rack and pinion steering, an automatic gearbox, fully independent suspension, all wheel braking, and is is mid engined rear wheel drive and perfect 50/50 weight distribution. They even have electric windscreen wiper, windscreen washer and a leather seat as standard. That’s seat, not seats.

The petrol variant comes with a 49cc four stroke engine coupled to a CVT gearbox (so it has reverse) and can reach a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph), while the electric Peel is powered by a DC Brushless motor, mated to a similar gearbox, and can reach 50 (31 mph) km/h.
