It might be as demanding as the ‘Ring and the Le Mans in terms of stress put on suspension and engines, but the Isle of Man TT Course proved to be no match for Subaru and their specially-designed WRX STI.

With Mark Higgins behind the wheel, the purpose-built Time Attack car, which is a joint development of Subaru and Prodrive with technical assistance provided by Subaru Tecnica International (STI), broke the previous lap record with a time of 17 minutes and 35 seconds and an average speed of 128.73 mph (207.17 km/h).

It was an amazing run today considering we were running in very hot conditions and the tarmac was quite soft. With lower temperatures we would be making more horsepower, so I still believe we have more left in terms of speed, but it is great to have another record in the bank“, the racing driver said.

The previous record was set by the same Mark Higgins, who managed to lap the famous 37-mile (60 km) Isle of Man TT Road Course with an average speed of 116.47 mph (187.44 km/h) and a time of 19 minutes and 26 seconds.
