Of all the ways you can ruin your day, not being able to find the brake pedal and crashing your car into a store has to rank among the most ridiculous.
The accident, involving this white Hyundai Mistra, took place in the city of Zhengzhou, Henan Province, and according to Carnewschina, the woman behind the wheel somehow managed to hit the accelerator too hard and was unable to “locate” the brake pedal.
On top of that, witnesses said that she actually reversed the car from about 50 meters (164 ft) away, which judging by these images would mean she started the maneuver all the way across the street.
The driver and her female passenger had to be taken to the local hospital with what we imagine weren’t very serious injuries, as was an innocent bystander. Nobody in the store was hurt though, except for the property itself – the owner of the shop estimated about 80,000 yuan’s ($12,000) worth of damage.
As for the car, if you’ve never heard of the Mistra, it’s probably because we’re talking about a China-only model, built by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. It’s powered by either a 1.8-liter 143 HP engine or a slightly larger 2.0-liter 155 HP unit, both petrol.
