The Hakone Turnpike is billed as Japan’s version of the Nürburgring.

It’s not a closed track but rather a toll road (which some consider the Nordschleife to be at any rate), snaking through the mountains near Fuji and offering panoramic vistas, sweeping curves, and smooth pavement in what could very well be the finest, most famous hillclimb route in the world.

Of course Japan makes its own share of vehicles ideally suited towards driving up and down the turnpike all day and all night. Supercars like the Acura NSX, Lexus LFA and Nissan GT-R come to mind, to say nothing of all the tuned street racers and drift cars for which the island nation has become known among automotive enthusiasts.

But if you really want to turn heads at Hakone, you want to show up in a European exotic. Something like, say, a McLaren 650S Spider, for example.

While we were in Tenerife with McLaren driving the new 570GT, another team was in Japan filming this video clip for our enjoyment. So crank the speakers, sit back, relax, and enjoy the unusual sight of a British supercar on one of Japan’s finest roads.
