Running the Isle of Man TT in 20 minutes is an impressive achievement, but Michael Dunlop riding a BMW S1000RR dropped the time by no less than three seconds!
The riders competing in the famous race are undoubtedly courageous, and although they put their life on the line with every corner they take at high speed, these athletes will stop at nothing to achieve their desired goal.
Last year, the 39-mile track (actually a road course) record was beaten by John McGuiness, who managed to take his Honda CBR1000RR around the isle in 17 minutes and 3 seconds with a whopping 213 Km/h (132 Mph) speed average.
If that sounds mind boggling, then Michael Dunlop’s 16 minutes 58.25 seconds time is stunning. His average speed was 133.393mph (214 km/h) – and at certain points the Hawk Beemer traveled at speeds in excess of 195 mph (313 km/h).
“If I knew I was so close to 134mph I would have pushed even harder”, said Dunlop. Well, now that he knows… maybe next year.
The footage of the TT lap is as mad as you think. Perhaps even madder. No matter. Just press “Play”.
