Lowering its roof in the first rendering, the posh open-top version of the 458 MM Speciale seems just about ready to tackle the roads of the world’s most exotic cities.
Since the coupe unveiled by the Italians earlier this week is based on the 458 Speciale, and the limited edition supercar was also offered as an Aperta, it wouldn’t be that difficult for the Italians to make such a variant.
That is, if the 458 MM wasn’t a one-off commissioned by a wealthy British collector who paid his/her way into exclusivity. Thus, unless the same person requests an open-top, too, Ferrari will never roll out a Spider version with the same handcrafted aluminum bodywork – which, by the way, had spy photographers thinking it was the rumored entry-level, V6-powered Dino.
Despite doing a few fast laps on the Fiorano circuit with Ferrari’s chief test driver Dario Benuzzi, who was joined by the unnamed owner, the Prancing Horse does not disclose its specs. In the “worst” case scenario, it uses the same 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine as the 458 Speciale, which sprints in just 3 seconds from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) and in 9.1 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph).
