Despite Sweden leaving Euro 2016 early following successive losses to Italy and Belgium, footballing legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic still has his Volvo V90 to fall back on.
Granted, the car itself isn’t what picks him up in this new film, but rather his family. The car does act as a medium as Zlatan embarks on an emotional road trip from Paris to the tough Malmo neighborhood of Rosengard where his journey began.
“Making this film was of course emotional, but the time has come for me to hang up my shirt and hand over to the next generation,” said the now former Sweden national team captain. “For me it is all about looking forward, not back. A new journey is starting – both for me and for Volvo.”
Zlatan’s footballing career began at Malmo FF in the late 90s, from where he was quickly signed by Ajax. He then went on to play for the likes of Inter & AC Milan, Juventus, FC Barcelona and most recently, Paris St-Germain. And while he has withdrawn from national team duties, Ibrahimovic will be continuing his club career, most likely at another top team.
Wherever he ends up, Volvo should continue to receive an image boost from a player widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, even at age 34.
“We are very proud that we have been given this opportunity to share this personal moment in Zlatan’s life and career,” stated Volvo Senior VP Anders Gustafsson. “He is a very strong ambassador for Sweden around the world and he has shown that you can continue to be proud of your values and your origins.”
