BMW‘s 2017 model year diesel models will arrive in the United States later than expected due to delays with national regulators certifying and approving the models.
The vehicles in question, the 328d Sedan, 328d Sports Wagon, X3 xDrive28d and X5 xDrive35d, are being delayed as regulators take longer and employ stricter measures to all diesel vehicles in the wake of the Volkswagen dieselgate scandal.
In an email to Autoblog, a BMW spokeswomen said “The product certification of all MY2017 BMW diesel models has been delayed due to testing logistics. As a result, production of these models will commence once homologation has been finalized.”
The industry-wide affects of the diesel emissions scandal were evident almost immediately and late last year, the 2016 X5 xDrive35d became one of the first diesel models affected by stricter emissions testing. Since then, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have also been forced to pass improved tests.
