Wrapped under a thick layer of vinyl stickers, the new E-Class Convertible has surfaced in a new spy video.
The car, which could be unveiled by the end of this year, will continue the brand’s Russian Doll design and slot between similar versions of the C-Class and S-Class, carrying a front fascia that will probably remain unchanged from the saloon and a rear end that will mimic the look of its other two siblings.
Its weight will probably be in the same zone as another E-Class version currently undergoing testing, the Coupe, and while its body will be reinforced to cope with the foldable roof, adopting a soft top instead of a hardtop will account for saving a few precious kilograms.
The cabin, with the large dual screens found on better equipped models, will be lifted wholesale from the E-Class Sedan and Estate, but unlike these two, the Convertible will only have seating for two.
The four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will come from the saloon, along with the anticipated 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that will power the top-of-the-line E63 AMG Cabriolet, but it’s unknown yet whether the full lineup will be available.
