Some six months after its only debut, two examples of the new Nissan Armada were snapped by a reader out and about in Houston, Texas.
This is one of the first times the new model has been snapped in production-guise in public, prior to customer deliveries commencing shortly. Interestingly, both the burnt orange and dark blue examples pictured have tape covering up all the badges, to help hide the identity of the car’s to the untrained eye.
Known globally as the Nissan Patrol and the Armada in North America, the vehicle shares many of its elements with the luxurious Infiniti QX80. As a matter of fact, the 2017 Armada is essentially Toyota’s more basic variant of the QX80, meaning it includes all the same key mechanical components and is only really identifiable from its Infiniti brother through the extensively redesigned exterior.
Power comes courtesy of the same 5.6-liter V8 engine as the QX80. However, this powerplant has been de-tuned from 400 hp to 390 hp and mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. While less powerful than the Infiniti alternative, the 2017 model is 73 hp more powerful than the previous car, allowing for an impressive 8,500 pounds of towing capacity.
Hat tip to Andrew Popoola for the pictures!
