According to a source close to Apple’s ‘Project Titan’ car program, the company is shifting focus away from creating its own car to developing an autonomous driving system instead.
Bloomberg reports that the project’s leader, Bon Mansfield, is pushing for the change in focus, leaving some to speculate that the firm may instead partner with an existing automaker or even by a company outright and enter the industry that way.
While Apple has declined to comment, if true, this could mean that it might well be sold to a number of different brands just like Apple CarPlay is available throughout the industry.
Ever since news about Project Titan first emerged, details have been sketchy to say the least. It has been confirmed that hundreds of engineers are involved in the project and that, initially, a car designed and built exclusively by Apple would be launched in 2020. People working on the project have apparently been poached by Tesla, General Motors, Samsung and Ford.
