The bold and potentially revolutionary Aston Martin AM-RB 001 will eventually spawn another mid-engined supercar, the British firm has revealed.

The company is currently deploying its ‘Second Century’ plan, ushered in by the brand new DB11. This plan will incorporate the expansion of the company’s range, a host of different technologies and updated designs, bringing Aston right to the top of the industry.

The AM-RB 001 will be the halo of the range, but after its launch it’ll be joined by a second mid-engined car, sometime after 2020.

Speaking with The Drive recently, Aston Martin’s chief creative officer Marek Reichman said “Everything we do in Special Projects is in part a foretelling of something to come. We never do something and then forget it. One-77 you can see as the start of the styling expression that became DB11. That’s how we get benefit for the brand.

“AM-RB 001 is a precursor of the idea of a mid-engined vehicle being part of the lineup for the Second Century plan. But far out—in the 2020s and beyond,” he confirmed.

Aston’s hypercar will arrive in production-spec in 18 months, so it seems unlikely we’ll see this second supercar offering before 2022 at the earliest.
