Involved in international GT3 racing since 2009, the Audi Sport customer racing team has just completed the assembly of the 200th R8 LMS.
Put together at the Neckarsulm site on the same manufacturing lines as the street-legal version, the racer is based on the second-gen R8 and has been commissioned by Land-Motorsport for Team Montaplast.
“We’re proud of this mark of 200 cars. With more than 10 manufacturers offering their products, including many premium sports car brands, the GT3 market is fiercely competitive in many countries. The demand shows that both our product and our services are focused on the customer and absolutely competitive“, said Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director of Quattro GmbH.
Introduced last year, the new Audi R8 LMS benefits from improved aerodynamics and added safety features that help it comply with the GT3 regulations imposed in 2016. Despite the additional weight that resulted from the added safety features, the racer is also 25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than before, tipping the scales at 1,225 kg (2,701 lbs). Power comes from a slightly modified version of the 5.2-liter V10 engine, from the production car, mated to a new six-speed sequential transmission and developing 585 PS (577 HP).
