Built in 2002, this mix between a motorcycle and a car was never officially available for purchase in North America. However, this one is.
You won’t come across the Smart Crossblade on the streets very often (even in Europe), as only 2,000 units of this nippy vehicles were produced.
Moreover, their owners venture out only when the sun is shining, as the lack of a proper windshield, roof, or conventional doors, can become problematic in other weather conditions, since nothing can protect its occupants from the elements. Though, its cabin (if you can call it that), came with weatherproof plastic and leather components. You can even take it to a regular car wash, if it gets dirty.
Powering the 740-kilogram (1,630 lb) car is Smart’s 600cc, three-cylinder turbo engine, modified by Brabus to produce 70hp – enough to take the car to 135 km/h (84mph). It may not sound very impressive, but it can get very extreme if you’re willing to take it there without any protective clothing and goggles.
So, if you live in North America and want to drive an exotic, exclusive car, here’s your chance. According to Bring A Trailer, this particular unit has done just 3,500 kilometers (~2200 miles) from new, it’s sold with a clean Pennsylvania title, and it comes with a federal replacement VIN as the car is substantially similar to the Smart ForTwo.
It has no modifications, apart from the removal of the silver vinyl on the door sills and roll hoops, and it lived on its previous owner’s mega-yacht before being acquired by the seller several years ago.
You can nick it for a tad higher than $10,501 – a decent price, considering that in Europe it costs anywhere from ~$12,000 to ~$26,000.
